Default Chap 12 -Retieve data EX

Chapt 12- retrieving and displaying data in 2004 MX book.

says to use the event.asp page. Also has instructions on code to delete from that page. Yet even with deleting that code, there is so much other code on that page that the Form tags do not end up in the right place.

Wouldn't it be more reliable to simply make a different asp page like events1.asp

stated another way. What code from the existing events.asp page is required?

thanks

Hi there,

Can you elaborate a little as I am sure I understand what you are saying. Where in the chapter does it "say[s] to use the event.asp page" to delete things?

And what do you mean with "there is so much other code on that page that the Form tags do not end up in the right place."

Finally, AFAIK, there is no delete code in event.asp. It's been a while since I wrote the book so I may be missing something though.

To see an example of a single page to delete records, take a look at deleteEvents.asp in the /Admin folder.

Cheers,

Imar

Chap 12, Page 422, item 1
"1. open the events.asp page in the root of your site and remove the following ASP select Case code block..."

Once you remove that code, there is still a lot of code on that events.asp page that may not be able to be repurposed.

You are correct, there is no 'delete' code. There are instructions in the "Try It Out" which requests the programmer remove code. Most people remove code by deleting text.

Really?? ;)

I thought you were referring to code that was able to delete events from the database.....

Can you give an example of code that is no longer needed? Are you sure it's not used in a later exercise?
And by all means, create a new page like events1.asp if you think that's easier for you.....
