Default Parse Error Message

Hello:

I am a real neophyte and am attempting to get started with learning how to build a web page. However I am already stuck on Chapter two which is discouraging to say the least!

Anyway when I try to look at the Cooking Place web page by serving it from my browser I get the following error message:

Parse error: parse error in c:\phpdev\www\thecookingplace\index.htm on line 3

I am using an Apache Server and PHP.

Can anyone help me?

Chris

Hi there,

Don't be discouraged. It's called learning when you get stuck at Chapter 2 ;)

Anyway, did you set up Apache and PHP correctly? Did you try a demo page with PHPInfo() in it?

If everything seems set up right, can you post the exact code for index.htm? Dynamics are not covered in Chapter 2, so your static page should run fine without parse errors.

Most of the other Chapters in the book discuss ASP instead of PHP? Do you have ASP running on your server as well? (Note, most of the stuff that gets explained can be done with PHP as well, but you'll have to do some converting / translating yourself).

Imar
