Default Making a counter to see how many visits your page received

Hello everyone!
I would like to be able to see how many visits my page received. I saw numerous websites that offered me free counters to place on my website, and I used one of them. However, I am unable to format it (probably because it's not my code!)
Therefore, I would like to know if there is a code that I can use to make counters without Flash or PHP (most likely Javascript). If you do include PHP, please tell me how to format it (for example, changing the size).
