Default deploying exercises in Beginning JavaServer Pages

Are these forums still monitored? I don't see much activity here, but I'll try anyway.

I've worked up to the first exercise for chapter 5 in BJSP, but how do I deploy it? The book has touched on war files and deployment files, but after a month of studying J2EE, I still don't know how to take these two jsp files and turn them into a working application on Tomcat. It seems like the book made a huge jump from making simple modifications to example code (up to chapter 4), then suddenly I'm expected to create and deploy an entire application?!?

I've checked the code against the appendix, so I guess I could move on, but if the rest of the exercises expect this same level of expertise, I better find another book to learn from. This no longer seems like a beginner-level book.

btw, I've already passed the J2SE certification, so I'm not a newbie to Java. But I'm stuck on deploying anything that isn't already packaged in a war file, and BJSP doesn't get into deployment until chapter 16. Maybe I'll jump forward and read that chapter, then come back to chapter 5.

Can anyone point me to a resource for learning how to deploy these jsp pages?

Hi Kevin321

How is the going, pls start tomcat then open your browser, then go to http://localhost:5050/manager/html, 5050 is my own port # for tomcat yours might be different, on getting to this page scroll down to Deploy then look for the heading war file to deploy, where you
will see a text field with the browse button besides it, click it and browse to the folder where you unzipped the book files browse to chapter five click the the folder to reveal the war file, then click deploy, scroll back to the top where you have message witht this u will see the message, which should be OK, after that just follow the desired link like http://localhost:5050/ch05/example1/ this should take to to the web page of the directory u requested for. This should help. THankk you have a wonderful day

On the MOVE!
