Default Page 4 Master Detail Bug

Hello

I keep encountering what I think is a bug (SOLVED in next post).
This bug is encountered by simply navigating around the application, after completing chapters 2 & 3.

Steps to Reproduce:

0) Complete Chapters 2 & 3

1) Use ApEx to Run Page 4
-> Master Form and Detail Form show properly

2) Click the "Products" tab of your application.
-> Program navigates to Products Report

3) Click the "Orders" Tab
-> Program navigates back to Orders Report

4) Click EDIT for any of the items in the report
-> Program navigates back to page in Step 1)

BUG: Detail Form no longer displays properly.
-> Master form shows correctly, but Detail form / Region has disappeared.

Did I do something wrong?

Default Re: Bug in Page 4

I may have solved my problem (or at least figured out what's going on).

After completing chapters 2 & 3, you actually have 4 Different ORDERS-Related pages.

Page 1 & 2: Orders Report A and Orders Form A
Page 3 & 4: Orders Report B and Orders Master / Detail Form

I assume that when you click the "Products" tab in the application, this re-directs you to page 1 (not Page 3).

So my problem is that pages 1 & 3 look identical, but they are totally different pages.

Is there any reason that there are "duplicate pages" (or near duplicates) in the application at this point?

Thanks again

ZzarkLinux:

I have gone through the Beginning Orcale APEX book. I completed the book with a total of 23 pages. I must tell you although I started over three times, Chapters 3 and Chapters 4 are long, to the point I checked mark each step and would not move to the next step without completing the current step. By the end of Chapter 3, you should have a total of 6 pages completed including the products page. However your page numbers may be different from mine and remember or make note of the Orders and Orders Detail (Master-Detail Report) because it is most used thru out the book. The following is my list of first 10 APEX pages:
  • Page 1 = Orders (Interactive w/ Edit Function Icon);
  • Page 2 = Orders Report (HTML);
  • Page 3 = Orders Report;
  • Page 4 = Order-Order Items Detail Report (Master-Detail);
  • Page 5 = Order Items;
  • Page 6 = Orders By Date;
  • Page 7 = Products Report (Interactive);
  • Page 8 = Products (New Look);
  • Page 9 = Products Report (Interactive);
  • Page 10 = Products (HTML w/ Maintenance TAB)
I hope this helps, just keep track of where you are within the steps.

ZzarkLinnx:

Never make assumptions, but you must have 6 distinct pages by the end of chapter 3 which ends on page 85. By the end of chapter 3, page 85 you should have applied 3 entries from the Errata Sheet which that chapters 2 & 3. All of these things must be done in the order they are written and place checks mark in your book to mark your completed steps.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your feedback so far.

I was able to "find my bearings", complete Chapter 3, and move on to chapter 4.

After running through some of Chapter 4, I confirmed my assumptions.

Chapter 4 basically re-works your application by directly linking web-pages 1 & 4. Once they are linked, page 101 in book instructs you to remove web-pages 2 & 3.

Now that I've entered Chapter 4, the whole application is making more sense to me.

I am glad I was able to help. However, I am advising that you DO NOT delete any pages or skip and/or skim through the chapters. Chapter 4 is on Validation, Calculation, Navigation and Lists on pages 88-122, which will reference your APEX pages 1-4 for sure. I also advise that you check or mark off each step of instructions and avoid skipping ahead or bypassing steps you feel inconsequential.

Happy APEX-ing!!
