quick question about code on pg 171

on bottom of pg 171 in chaper6:

foreach( $people as $people_id => $people_fullname) {
       .....
       ....
       }

what is the definition/function of the "=>" operator?

i didnt find an explicit definition in operators or array. but the implication is that it serves as a mapping between key and value?
