Default chapter 4 Table 2

Hello,
i recently purchased this book because i am a begining web developer and want to learm AMP. i chose this book because of the relevance it seems to have to what i want to do (ie. the online store, mailing lists and sending email, and building databases and so on). everything so far seems to be working poperly and i am enjoying the book however i came across an error in chapter 4 that has puzzled me for days. it has to do with the extract function. in ch.4 the select.php lesson with the extract function worked perfectly fine. but when i went on to the table2 lesson i typed all the code and opened it in my browser and got the following messages.

Warning: extract() expects first argument to be an array in C:\FoxServ\www\AMPpractice\table3.php on line 34

Warning: extract() expects first argument to be an array in C:\FoxServ\www\AMPpractice\table3.php on line 48

i know they have to do with the get_director and get_leadactor functions, but i can't seem to find out what the issue is. the code is exactly the same as in the book and i even downloaded the code from this website. i changed the database connection info to match mine but still got the exact same error. i installed foxserv 3.0 and haven't changed any of the settings except for the path to the sessions for a previous lesson. this error has gotten extremely annoying and i can't continue until it's fixed. mainly because i just want to know what the hell is wrong with it. your prompt response would be greatly appreciated

thanx
alvinsimon
