Default PHP Error on Server

when i open up a file (i.e., text.html, from ch. 3) on http://localhost/ and enter stuff, click submit, the page either takes forever to load, or it gives me the "internal server error". but, the files are in my c:\inetpub\wwwroot folder. any suggestions? is this also messing me up with the alternative to register_globals, because if the php file loads, it doesn't bring up the php script, it just brings the html, if anything.

IM SOOOOO CONFUSED!!!
