Chpt 20 - adding a web reference
Hi..
I've created the pictureservice project as instructed with good results. I then moved on to create the application that would call on the web service. However when I run the project (this is after finishing the part about retrieving the list of folders into the combo box), I get a 401 error: access denied error.
I have IIS installed on my local machine and have the project files located on a network drive. I had no problems running the services earlier when testing them. I tried copying the project to the local machine (same as iis) and running the poject but had the same results.
I would like to know if you have any suggestions as to what I should look at to resolved this issue. I've checked the security rights in Inetpub that hold the pictureservice directory and everything looks ok. Any suggestions?
I ran into other issues once at the beginning of the book also when I was running the proj files from a network location (and it wouldn't access my local pc folders) but I figured that out, I'm wondering if this is something similar.

Hi Ko,
I am sure I can help you, but it may have to wait until the weekend as I am away from my network and do not have access to any system that has VS 2005. Are you saying that you put everything back to one computer and the same issue still happens?

Ko,
Can you post the code that you have to call the webservice? Also, post the code for the service also if you can.

Bryan,
Could this simply be an issue with me using Express Editions of VB and VWD?
Thanks Mark

Click on bnews987 or click the link to show profile in my reply to see my profile and send me a message offline. I have not tried it with that setup, but I would believe that it should still work. I will try to get that version and setup a trial for myself.

Bryan,
Thanks for your reply, but it says you have no contact details on your profile.
Anyway I look forward to seeing if you can get it to work and thanks for your time.
Regards Mark
