Default Chapter 9 - Debugging and data tips

Hi,

In step 3, and Figure 9-16, on page 297 you describe how to view the present contents of the variable.
The list in the figure looks nice and clean, but my data tips list is long and filled with a lot of information I don't know what is...

Is there a way to shorten the list that is viewed as data tips in debugging?

I am running visual studio 2005 Team Edition for software developers on a Vista SP1 laptop.

Btw; A great book, and fairly easy to understand what's going on. Thumbs up to the authors!

Are you hovering your mouse over the customerToList parameter in the ListCustomer procedure? If so, your list should be the same.

If you hover your mouse over some other object the list will varying depending on what is contained in the object you are querying. There is no way to customize the tooltip list and it is sometimes a pain to scroll through.

Hi Thearon,

Thanks for repy!
As I am at home now, I don't have neither the source code or the book in front of me. But I am 99% sure that I followed that Try it out to the letter. I cross checked it against you description and the figure in the book several times. Having said that, I can't rule out the possibility that I have done something that makes this tool tips list much longer than necessary.

As you say, the list was painfully long to scroll through, but in between all the other elements in the list, I found what I was looking for.

I think I will learn to handle this better in the future, as I will get more and more experienced.
I don't know how many that are still using this "old" development platform. Since the product I am supporting is an asp.net application written in VB 2005, this is a relevant platform for me
