Default Working with Word

Dear Helen Feddema,

Thank you very much for writing an excellent book on Access Application Development. Its very simple to Read, Jargon free and yet is detailed.

My company has a word format with very randomly placed table cells used either as Label or Data. I need to export One Row of Access Query to the above mentioned Formatted Word Template.

I would like to know which of the following method a) Mail Merge b) Document Properties c) Bookmarks d) TypeText Method is more ideal.

Thanks in anticipation.

Ps: Looking forward for more books from you.

This depends on a number of factors. If you just need to export one row of data to a new document made from the template, doc properties or bookmarks would both work well. For doc properties, create the properties you need, and place DocProperty fields in the appropriate table cells. For bookmarks, place bookmarks in the table cells. Doc properties have the advantage that you can place several DocProperty fields referencing the same doc property in different locations in a document or template.

I don't recommend mail merge except when there is a need to merge hundreds of records, and TypeText could have a problem if there are changes to table structure.

The Code Samples page of my Web site (see signature block) has numerous examples of exchanging data between Access and Word, mostly using doc properties or bookmarks.
