Question StoredProc performance vs. queries

In the book ADO.NET 3.5 with LINQ and the Entity Framework
on page 521 there is a italic paragraph which states that SQL Server SP are no more offering performance benefits.

Is there any document(webpage) there the issue is more deeper explained?

thx

David

David,

SQL Server ceased compiling stored procedures after version 6.5 in favor of caching query plans for stored and parameterized queries. There's a detailed article about this on SQL Server Central, "Stored Procedures and Caching" (http://www.sqlservercentral.com/arti...durecache/591/).

For a more authoritative source, see the "Stored Procedures and Execution Plans" section of http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa174792.aspx.

HTH,
