Cross platform Book xml example from Chapter 6

I have uploaded the cross platform books xml example to my server and it works fine in IE and Firefox but nothing happens in safari (on a mac or pc).

I did this because I couldn't get my own version to work. oXmlDom.onreadystatechange was called, but oXmlDom.readyState is 'undefined' in safari.

This is supposed to work on Safari right?
