Default Can't figure out why ToDoList example isn't drawing the separator or the text

I tried to post this on StackOverflow, but as my reputation is less than 1500, I can't create new tags.

I'm stepping through "Android 4 Application Development". I'm in chapter 4, in the section "Creating New Views". I've made all the changes suggested in the text, but my sample app is behaving differently from the download, and I don't understand why. I've diffed all the project files, and I've only seen what seem like inconsequential differences.

When I run the app and enter a new item, a new row displays in the list with the correct background color, but the margin line doesn't show, and the text of the item doesn't show.

I'd like to understand what I've done wrong, but I'd also like to understand how I could have figured this out.

I've uploaded the project zip file to my Google Drive share, and made it public. I think you should be able to access it:
