export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 or not?

In the release notes of some of the latest Tomcat 5.0.x versions (e.g. 5.0.28), it says Redhat Linux 9.0 users should set:

export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5

but in previous paragraph it also said "...Sun JDK 1.4 does not exhibit the problem".

I am unsure if I need the export or not?
