Default SmtpMail.Send Exception

When I sent email using classic ASP, if the SmtpServer was not running, the mail would end up in the mailroot/pickup folder until the server started again. Now, I find that SmtpMail.Send throws an exception if the service is not running.

Anyone know a workaround?

Thanks.
