I'm getting an error msg in the client application (more specifically, the aspx page)stating that it did not recognize the 'Forum' type and needs a reference to the assembly for the Forum object (though it already has a web reference to the server application web service)

I believed that because the SchemaImporterExtension component adds a reference to the Forum object (through the CodeCompileUnit object) that the client application did not need any additional reference to it...

You need to download the complete code from the Wrox Web Site. The bin directory of the client application in this download already contains the Forum.dll assembly.
