Well, maybe. But that depends on what your background is. In the Intro the author talks about who the book is for, and ends with this:

"This book is not aimed at beginners lacking a basic computer science background or those looking to add some simple user interactions to Web sites. These readers should instead refer to Wrox's Beginning JavaScript."

So, if you are a developer that wants to improve your JavaScript skills, this book is for you. But if you are not a developer and are looking to learn JavaScript, go with Beginning JavaScript, 3rd Edition. In the intro to that book the authors say, "In order to get the most out of this book, you'll need to have an understanding of HTML and how to create a static web page. You don't need to have any programming experience."

Hope that helps,
David
