Figure 6-29 on Page 150 shows a sample report in a stepped format where group headers and detail are on separate rows with the headers spanning the columns to the right. This example is also included in the sample reports that can be downloaded from the Wrox website as Chapter 6 \ Products by Category and Subcategory.

I have not been able to create this report as shown. I am able to add rows to have the group headers on separate rows but cannot merge the group header cells with cells to the right in order to span the columns as shown in Figure 6-29. (The group header cells are multiple rows high and merging them with the blank cell to the right that is only one row high is not permitted.)

In particular, I don't see a the vertical dotted line which normally separates the row groups from the tablix body. In my version, these dotted lines are there, indicating that I am approaching this differently than the way the example was created. This would seem to possibly have something to do with the problem.

Can anyone who has successfully completed this describe the steps in detail?
