I'm new to BI and bought this book to learn SSAS, so I'm very dependent on the step-by-step guides as I have little practical experience.
I follow the guide and encounter 2 problems.

Figure 8-36 shows Sales Amount from 2001-2005. I have no sales on those periods in the sample data? I find date for the period 2005-2010. So I guess the author might have used an older version of Adventure Works DW?

Then when I export to Excel, I only get sales from 2005! I'm guessing this is a default member member problem or something. I just have no idea how to fix it to show for more than one year. I haven't skipped any chapters and am therefore very confused with this sudden disconnect.

Please help?

I have the same problem but noticed it right from the beginning. The authors used a newer version than what is provided on this Wrox website. I sent an email to support and they said they can't help with coding issues - of course it wasn't a coding issue - it’s a mismatch of the book purchased to the provided samples.
Run a select in the data warehouse and you will find something like this -
DBVersion VersionDate
11.00.20120216.00 2012-02-16 00:00:00.000

I have actually spent hours looking for the most recent version and found many different versions out there so good luck in the hunt. The authors/Wrox and Wiley all remove themselves of any responsibility for the code and I understand that but if you are a first time developer trying desperately to utilize this book, you will get lost fast. I am looking at purchasing another source for information. Poor job in implementing to some of us less knowledgeable is the root cause, if you are already well versed in Cube creation and especially mdx statements this book works just fine I would suppose.
If anyone has a clue where the latest Data warehouse is located – please inform Wrox support so they have a clue.

I found out that he main reasons of many of the mismatches is due to the fact that it is literally copy-pasted from the 2008. Whole pages are completely identical with only the screenshots that is different. So I guess they just haven't been prudent enough in updating the information.
I really like the book, but it is just difficult to manage whether it is my incompetence or theirs that make it fail.
