Default DateTime Parameters

The parameter examples in the book are all quite clear, because they are quite simple. However, next to nothing is mentioned concerning datetime parameters, apart from a very vexing reference to the topic in BooksOnline. But in my rather tedious GERMAN BooksOnline next to nothing can be found about formatting datetime parameters.

How do I manage datetime parameters in SQL Reporting Which functions can you use for datetime values? Where can I find those functions?
