Default declare and set (from bmains)

bmains provided me with code to fix a problem with excluding data by date.

ie:
declare @NewDate varchar(10)
set @NewDate = Month(getdate())+'/'+Day(getdate())+'/'+(Year(getdate()) - 1)

I am very new to report services , having trouble add this code.
