Default Alias Mode

In Chapter 20 page 515, Alias Mode is discussed. We have been having issues with our template where it is referencing users by the Active Directory Display name when we need the username. After reading about Alias Mode in the book we believe this could resolve our issue. We contacted MS support as suggested but they are saying that Alias Mode is not supported in TFS 2010.
