Can anyone tell me if the example in Chapter 5 works? I have tried to run and did all as it says in the book but I cant get it running. When I run the WCFServiceHost I'm not getting the message: "Service Running", but simply the name of the label.

Yes, the program ServiceHost works. You need to run ServiceHost as an Administrator. By running as administrator, you will have permission to the namespace.
