Can anyone provide any insight on how one might create a "Net Send" type app where you can send messages to any user by specifying their username, or send a message to the desktop even if no one is logged in by specifying "*" ? I tried using msg.exe as an alternative to Net Send but I need something with more control.

The main obstacle I need to overcome is how to display a message even when a user is not logged on. (Net Send can do this)

I would like to try to write my own app rather than using a 3rd party app.

I know I have no clue how to do this. I'll be interested to see if anyone has any ideas. If you figuer it out, be sure to post a follow-up saying how to do it.
