how can i create a simple server as i did in vb6

i am very new to vb.net. have created servers in vb6 and now need a server in vb.net.

i can create a server and define some methods and run them from my app. that references the server.

however i need the server also to display a form. i create a form in the server but have not been successful at calling it from the app that makes reference to the server.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean you want to start a server process and have another program request things from it?

In that case, I think the server may be able to display forms. It would need to include the Windows.Forms namespace, create the form, and show it.

I think you would need to run the server interactively. If it was started as a Windows service, it wouldn't have a user session on which to display a form.

I haven't done much of this sort of thing lately so I may not be able to help much more than this, but let me know if I didn't understand your question.

this is what i have done and it seems to work just as i wanted it to although it may have some deep faults. i am listing a copy of my thread on vbforums.

now simplly in the client -- my server was server5 and i added it to the project add reference
(it is now an exe file)

and now server5.Form1. recognizes form1_load (finally!!)
and so you write
server5.Form1.Form1_Load(sender, e)
it calles the form1load in which you have form1.show and we are done

and wub (would u believe) works as advertised.

this is the very simple zeroth order server project that is going to enable me to go forward and create a server that can be called from any appl.
