user authentication

HI
I have several pages displaying information that I would like to make private, is there a way to setup user authentication using ASP on the pages that i want to make private so that the user is prompted when he clicks the link to the first private page but then is not prompted by any subsequent private pages that he visits? Any code examples would be welcomed.
