A big thanks for the example code.

I suspected that the solution would involve Javascript but could not find an effective solution.

Apologies for bringing Javascript into the ASP forum but the solution worked first time.

No worries happy to help. Just be aware - if you use the onclick event like this the user can not press the enter key to submit the form. This can frustrate some users when they ar required to click. Not applicable in your situation because you have two clickable buttons however if you decide to use this type of event in the future keep it in mind.
