Default using a #include virtual="file" is slow loading

Im' trying to use a

reference on all my asp's to have the common code in one file. Basically the common.asp file has the code for a navigation bar.
This is to make updates easier if there are changes.

The problem is that the load time of an asp now takes 4-5 seconds longer than the original one second to load.
I understand that there will be more server side processing because of this. Any ideas on how to approach this or speed it up?

What do you refer to when you say 'original one'?

Generaly good code runs well and bad code runs slow. IME what type of include method you use does not dictate speed. Obviously the code in the file being included certaily does. Lots of session variables, not closing connections or clearing large arrrays etc will also do it

Originally, I had an asp with all the code on it and it loaded in a second. Lets call it page.asp. It included the navigation bar. I removed the navigation bar code and put the code into the common.asp file. The common.asp only contains the navigation bar code. Now the page.asp takes 4-5 seconds to load.

Very very strange...are you sure there hasnt been a code change after the code was removed

Try to use the include file syntax. Shouldnt make a difference but hey you problem according to your description sounds very odd:

The code is working perfect now with no changes. I would say that there was probably some issues with my web hosting company or somewhere along the line. The code worked fine in my test environment but had issues in the live environment.
Thanks for the help.
