Default Read only Database error

Hi all ,
have a problem which seems to have been solved by member known as "theokrtz". When attempting to insert data into an Access database via an asp driven web page using forms, i keeping getting the message 'Cannot update. Database or object is read-only.'

As the application i'm working on is 80% dependent upon database insertion/extraction i need to get this problem sorted asap. Any solutions offered are greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this plea for help,
larry101

Take a look at this thread that was handled a while before.
Cannot update. Database or object is read-only

You may have made a search on this site regarding this error. If you want you can also look at theokrtz's thread too. Here it is.
Update Problem under wwwroot folder

Cheers!

Happygv , thanks for quick reply.
I have looked at both threads. Neither help. Any other suggestions?
Also , without using 'cookies' , is there any other way to make a variable available to other pages in an application? For example, the users' username is required in several pages where database insertion and extraction are required.
Thanks to all for help given,
larry101.

There is no other work around for this. All that needed to fix that has been discussed in those threads. I am not sure why you still have problem with it. Giving Read/Write permission for IUSR_COMPUTERNAME (on the webserver-that run IIS) to the ACCESS MDB file atleast, or to the folder which contains MDB should solve that problem. Did that not help even after doing so?

Without cookies, there is a way of doing that, using HIDDEN FIELD, but you have to always post the data to the other pages, and request them in those pages. I dont think this is that easy to handle.

Use Session variables that are available to all pages, till the session expires/user closes the browser. This should be an easier solution.

Cheers!
