Default [V] NT Crazyness-- 800a0e7a

I've got an IIS4 box (please don't say "upgrade", it is NOT an option and NOT a choice I get to make). I'm getting the error below on ALL database connections through ASP. I thought it was my "new" MySQL/MyODBC database.. until I tested one of our "old" Access database connections. Absolutely everything is throwing this error.

ADODB.Recordset error '800a0e7a'

Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed.

The only thing I could think of to do was to reinstall MDAC-- so I downloaded the latest MDAC (aug 8 '03) and installed it and rebooted-- same <s>dam</s> darn errors.

I don't know what else to try. Rebuilding this box is not, at this point, and option. I've set up many boxes to run IIS4 and ASP before-- and never had this issue.

We are using DSN's (I know, I know) for our datasources, but
1. The DSN's all test out as working in the ODBC panel and
2. I threw together a connection string, and that gave the same error anyway.

There's some fundamental problem with IIS and MDAC, but I'm running out of things to try.

Please help!

Hi Cheryl,

Did you also download and install the Microsoft Jet 4.0 drivers?

As of ADO 2.6 (I think), the Jet drivers are no longer included in the standard MDAC installation. You may need to install stuff from this page: http://support.microsoft.com/?KBID=282010

If that doesn't help, I am out of options too.....

Cheers,

Imar

I've been at this stupid error for 6 hours. I finally found, in the depths of google groups, a reference to permissions.

The poor soul who posted had (in 2000!) had the same issue.
He tried turning anonymous access off, and leaving only NT Challenege Response on. Lo and behold-- it worked.

Tried this trick, that did it for me, too.... for my Access AND my MySQL DB's. Now I just have to track down WHERE exactly IUSR dosen't have the access it needs.

Can't be Jet b/c I'm not using Jet (despite the 80000 posts I found about Jet.)
