I need to save data from excel files to SQL server via ASP. How can I do that? Please note, my excel file will be a client-side file and SQL server and ASP will be server-side. Do I have to upload the excel first and then read from excel to pick data from and transfer to SQL server table? Or what it is...
Any help with some basic codes will be of great help.

Maybe you can write a special ASP COM component to do this, and you must get the client's trust.

I guess that is not possible. I don't have permission to write COM components here.

Yes, you will need to upload the file first, ASP cannot read files off the client's hard disk.

I think your best bet will be to use the Excel ODBC driver to extract the data from the spreadsheet. See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=195951 for an example.

Just had another thought, you should be able to drive the import from SQL Server using the OPENDATASOURCE command to read from the Excel sheet. That would be much quicker than using ASP to read the Excel sheet and construct insert queries for SQL Server. Personally, I would go for that option first.
