Default Image size

I would like to show an image on my website. I need to know the height and width of the picture before showing it.

I am pulling from a pool of very different sized pictures and they could be tall and thin or short and wide. They could be huge or small. I want them to fit within a certian height width area, so I need to adjust their heights and widths perportionately to fix. If I jsut set the height hardcoded, then short wide pics go off the page.

Can anyone help me here. I have no control over the server, so another component is not an option for me. If anyone has any other suggesitons, I'd be happy to hear them. I just need it dynamic.
