Error in formula: A string is required here

In a formula,after declaring "WhilePrintingRecords" many variables are declared and after that If else conditions are applied. But after checking the formula no error is displayed but at the time of running the report "Error in formula <formula name> variable name : A string is required here" this message is displayed.
So kindly give your solutions on this.
