Yeah, that's the problem. Media files depend on how the visitor's browser is set up to handle the different file extensions. That's why there are so many detection scripts out there, a detection script checks if the user can handle a file type so the page doesn't collapse. But you don't really have any control over what program they use. That's why Flash video, FLV, is becoming so dominant, because most people have it and it gives you... relatively... control over how it's displayed. You have to know at least a little bit about flash to do them natively... OR and this is a beautiful alternative, find something that will convert your stuff into FLV format.
