How to avoid dropdown colse in combo box

Hi,
I have a combobox component with checkbox renderer.I cannot make multiple selection at a time. drop down closed when i try to make another selection. How to resolve. Can we prevent the drop down close? can we open a drop down for a while? Plz help me .....
