Blocking user accounts
Hi all,
Bit of a newbie at this concept so bear with me.
I realize that there has been a lot of s**t going on regarding Flashboy21 and rollinhot30 posting bad stuff about me on these forums. Thing is, Snib informed me of the situation and his e-mail was what prompted me to take appropriate action regarding the two ********. Now that I think of it, it wasn't really necessary to notify James about the situation since he or one of the other Admins took care of the situation pretty quickly.
My question is this: If an offender posts spam or some other offending material to this site at one computer and is blocked, is just the IP Address blocked? Couldn't that same person just sit down at another computer and post messages from there? I guess I'm a bit confused here.
Again, I sincerely apologize for the language stuff. It's just that I'm really angry that this even happened. I don't want my reputation as a valuable contributor to these forums to be smeared.
Thank you,
Ben Horne

Yes, Ben, please watch your language. My patience is thin right now and name calling will only worsen the situation.
Currently, we're only locking the user accounts.
If the situation continues, we might resort to locking IP addresses, in which case we'd likely lock the whole offending subnet.
Or we could contact the network admin where these are coming from.
Or, I may turn the forum to original posts moderated. I've been wanting to do that for a while but others here have resisted. I will stop this situation from getting out of control. I'm not going to let this ruin the p2p forum for everyone else.

Its a safe bet thet they where both the same person Ben, don't let it get to you, as the saying goes "Small things amuse small minds".
Jim, What do you mean by original posts moderated.
Please tell me that does not mean that our posts will not be published until viewed by an administrator.
And if that is the case, will and administrator be available 24 / 7, for us in the southern hemisphere.

Rod,
If that is what it means, what is so bad about it? 99% of the questions asked in the feedfack forums are directed at Administrators anyway.
Besides, I don't think we need yet another discussion about premoderation.... :-(
My input,
Snib

Snib,
Sorry, I thought he meant all forums.
There would be no problem in moderating the feedback forum only, but there would be no point to it either.
The "Flamer" would just post his abuse in other forums.

Rod:
I'm not talking about just our "Flamer." I was just saying that it makes sense to me that this forum be premoderated because that way the Admins can answer questions without letting a bunch of stuff on the forum that we have heard a lot of (i.e. "where's the code...?").
Our troublemaker probably will post in other forums, probably the most popular. But nothing big has to be done about that, as the moderators and administrators can just delete them as soon as they pop up. It's not like anything they say about Ben or anyone else is true. They were just nonsense.
Need those [rant] tags again....
Always,
Snib

Yeah,
After thinking about it pretty hard, I think I'm gonna go for pre-moderation of this forum and this forum only.

I agree this is a good idea for this forum, I'm all for it.
But the cause and effect has me a little confused.
Beside this will effect Ben more than anyone else.

Rod,
How do you think this will affect me at all? I mean, I don't think I'll mind the Feedback forum being pre-moderated. If anything, I think it will have a good effect because people will know they can't abuse the P2P terms of service.

Snib,
I like the idea of having [rant] tags here.:D Last time I posted anything about that subject here though, Bruce didn't think it was a good idea:(. Neither did Imar now that I think of it.
