Default Exponential form?!?!?!?!

In the financial industry, there are security #'s called "cusips". An example of one of these 9 digit cusips would be "912828e72"

Is there a way to format a cell, to get that cusip number to stay like that? (the "e" makes the excel cell think it's an exponential number)

Even using the custom formats, you get back: "9128280000000000etc..."
I want it to read "912828e72"

In addition, I can not use ' or " because that would require me to ge into each cell where one of these problems exist. (it's thousands of lines of data.)

I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks, rich Hartmann

RichHartmann:

It is not clear whether the cusips already exist in an excel speadsheet or you want to move them from a database or file into an excel spreadsheet. In Excel 2003, using double-quotes("cusips") will leave the double-quotes around the number. However the single-quote just at the beginning of the cusip, converts the it to text and right-justify it and the single quote does not show. Could this be the case, if the cusips already exist in the XL-spreadsheet?
