hi buster,

why dont you store the messages in database table and retrieve it for every particular interval(for ex. 1 minute) using javascript setTimer() function and ajax to get message from database.

use one status field in ur database table. change the status for the displayed messages.

you have to retrieve only the not displayed messages by checking the status field.
you can list all messages without considering the status field for "view history" option as well.
