Default Posted code mangled

I posted some HTML/script code today (javacript drop down boxes - populating one dependent on value of the other) and the code block really mangled it. Is there a way to avoid this?

Hi Joe,

It's a bug in the editor. I reported it some time ago but it never got fiixed.

It happens when you paste formatted code (from Visual Studio) and wrap it in code tags. You can work around it by removing formattiing first directly after you pasted using the Remove Text Formatting button on the toolbar.

Hope thhis helps,

Imar

Thanks for that. I tried to edit it and replace with unformatted code but it wouldn't let me edit the stuff either...

I'll know better next time.

Yeah, it's a frustrating bug, especially when other users post something like "my code doesn't work; can you take a look" and then post broken code without realizing there's a problem ;-)

Joe: What specifically did the code block mangle? Just the line indents or something else?
I'm not sure why you weren't able to edit your post. Permissions are set up that you should be able to. Any more details on that I'd appreciate too.

Jim

If you look at the post you'll see that spaces between key words have been removed.
As regards to editing when I click the edit button I get a swirling image and that's it. It never switches into editing mode. I have tried on more than one machine, just tried again now, same result. Using IE8.

I don't think you can fix it (which post was it?). If you use a code block to post code then apparently you can't have formating. Instead of copying fron Visual Studio for example I now go via Notepad to get the plain text and then paste into the forum.

Hi Joe,

Funny how you just responded to your own post.... ;-)

Looks like narasimha is spamming these forums with copies of earlier posts. Time to block his account maybe?
