Default Err.Number -2147217873

Hi,

In asp I am catching the error that is thrown by COM+ component. I am getting the error number as
-2147217873. I know why this error is coming(Due to constraint violation in database). But my doubt is whether this error number is common for all runtime errors or it signifies some specific kind of error. Can anyone put some light on this? Also can I get a list of all possible error numbers (ofcourse excluding user defined) along with its description?

Thanks,
MSUser.

That is not a "general" runtime error code. It depends on which db driver you are using as to what that specific error code actually means (though it seems in your case you know what it means). For example see http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2370 (note that -2147217873 is 80040E2F in Hex).

Personally I don't know of any resource that lists all the possible error codes for each driver and what they mean.

I've seen lists of errors for a specific program (never a list of multiple program's errors). In the past, I've done a search for the error number and see what pops up. Some of these lists contain both the number and the hex code, and some one or the other.

I've never seen a description of the error, or if there is, it's usually what appears on the screen, and offers no more insight. Usually documents explaining the error detail only the error itself, which offer much insight.

Hope this helps,

Brian
