i got 3 columns in datagrid. there is a column name in the table "AttachmentDoc". if that is not empty i want to display
an image in the third column of the grid. if that is empty i don't want to display anything.

how would i accomplish.

Faster and consistent will surely beat the slow and steady

Use a TemplateColumn and add the image, with the path to the attachment.

Then use an event like ItemCreated or ItemDataBound to find out which one's have an ImageUrl of empty string or  , and remove the image control.

i solved it in different way.
i wrote a function for the AttachmentDoc column.
if it was not empty then i inserted the image in the item template

        If strAttach <> "" Then
            'chkAttachmentEmpty = "<img src='../../Common/Images/paperclip.gif' align='center'>"
            chkAttachmentEmpty = "<img src='Images/paperclip.gif' align='center'>"
        Else
            chkAttachmentEmpty = ""
        End If
    End Function


in the html i pass the dataitem as argument to that function.

        </ItemTemplate>

it is working fine now
