Default What Windows can VB .NET App run on

What verson of Windows can an application developed using VB .NET be deployed on. The target PC will not have .NET. Can it run on a version as low as Windows 98.

What I need to do is deploy my app to a Windows 2000, but would like to run on Windows 98.

I am currently reading up on Deployment so I hope it is straight forward.

Ganesh,

What happens if the target computer does not have .NET framework? Can they purchase it or download from the Internet. What are the legal requirements. I thought I could just deploy an .exe file (apparently not).

Regards

Hi,

on a windows platform (like win 2000 or win XP (i am not shure about win98, but i guess you will easy find help)) for a .NET app to run you need the .NET framework installed. It is free downloadable exe from the official microsoft site(just search the yahoo or google for dotnetfx.exe-this is the installation file ~25MB). And you deploy your program :)
You can also include this install file in the install of your app. Look for it in the MSDN. There is a very cool way to make your install wizrd look for the framework and if is isn't found on the system to install it, as a step of the process of installing your application.

You don't need the .NET Visual Studio on the target PC.

Hope this helps.

Alex
