design considerations

Hello,
    I need some suggestion for my system, A chat solution where a end user from any browser communicates with a win32 application. We donât want to use activex, applet only javascript from client side. I need the suggestion to how to tackle this problem and produce a scalable solution. What will be the hardware specifications and to stress test it.
I have asked to many questions but please point me to some direction where I can choose my way.
    I want different suggestion. I hv some in my mind but just want to brainstorm this problem. The plat form is .net.
