Default marshalas term in vb.net

Hi there,
Can somebody tell me the utility of marshalas in vb.net 2.0.I mean for what purpose i should use it.

It used in the .Net remoting framework. When you need to make a remote procedure invocation, the object(s) involved are marshaled in order to send them across the remoting channel (TCP or HTTP, etc). Essentially, it's binary serialization.
