please, note that, a complete rectangular block of color behind the text is not intended.

i wanted color exactly behind text plus gap between text lines. it that way (if!) looked much better.

next it is easy, if i drop line-height attribute, but then, it'll be little less easier to read text then.

paragraphs start after some distance from left-margin and usually last word ends before touching right margin. not a rectangular-shaped text, though confinement to text is rectangular.

The DON'T use a background color on the block.

I thought I understood what you wanted but now I'm just confused.
