View the source. It is a div tag that uses javascript to move it, from what I saw once on Yahoo's.

Usually you would use a pre-built script to make an ad like this, but it is possible to create your own custom one if you want.

It involves moving the div's style.top property every x seconds, making it move slowly down from the top of the page. Then, there's an x second timer that calls a function that moves the ad into the bottom-left, and scrolls it with the page like what you can find on dynamicdrive.com.

If this isn't enough of an explanation, let me know and I'll give you more details.

Also you may be able to find a pre-built solution on Google.

Snib, is what you're describing like Windows Update where you click on an update and the border of the selected update flies to the 'Total updates selected' section?

stu9820,

The idea is very similar. I believe Microsoft uses the same technique, with position:absolute style <div> elements, and dynamically changing their top, left, width and height styles at intervals.

The Windows Update effect is a bit more complex, as I believe it has some advanced Math methods that make the border gradually speed up (or is it slow down? I forget).

But generally, yes, it's the same type of thing :-)
