Default Inserting images

Hi, im a bit of a beginner with regards web design, but can someone please explain how to bring in an image to a webpage? I can get the code ok but all that appears is a white box with an 'x' in it. Its obviously to do with the sizing & naming of the pic, but i cant get it.. Ive even tried with small pictures and im saving as .gif but no joy.

The path to the image isn't right, the value of the src="" attribute.

Are you trying this on a server or locally? If on a server, are you sure you have uploaded the images? Do the paths in your code reflect where the images really are? Maybe you link to them on your hard drive or you have uploaded them to another directory than you meant to. Another possibility is CaSe. Most servers are Unix based and case sensitive. pic.jpg, PIC.JPG and pic.JPG are three different files on such a computer.

Hey, i have the location ok, the images are saved locally. But i think i have them opening via the wrong application. If I have the pics opening via a Windows picture and fax viewer, must i convert them to something else via properties and 'opens with'? Should 'opens with' be changed to eg. 'Internet Explorer'?
