Default Browser problems

I am working on my first website and I am having problems with different browsers, mainly FF. I have been working on the site and opening it with IE, so when I opened it with FF to my surprize the website did not appear the same as it did on IE. The home page was fine except for the table that had my links in it was blue, supposed to be transparent, and the paragraphs on the other pages had diamond shaped "?" in the place of apostrophes and successive periods (...). I am sure that this has a simple remedy, but I do not know what it is. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!

Sure. Here is the link: www.geocities.com/jmac731976/ It is free right now, when I get it up and going I will pay for the good stuff. It is a website for my girl friends art. Please be kind, it is my first site. Very basic stuff, but a couple of weeks ago I did not even know what HTML stood for. I am relying on this forum and many other resources to help along the way. I did update FF and the "?" went away, but the table is still blue. IE the table is transparent the way that I want it. Another question that I do have is, where would I get ideas on the style and layout of a website? Thanks for everyones help, it is very appreciated!!!
