That site has made no attempts to disable View Source that I can see and kudos to them for that.

I guess you are using IE and are the victim of a common IE bug that makes View Source not work. Empty the cache and restart the browser and everything should, hopefully, work as normal again. :)

A more general answer is that you cannot hide the source. You can try to with JavaScript. That won't stop anyone who really wants to take a peek and most implementations will annoy a lot of people. Don't go there.

Program code someone might want to hide. Data someone might want to hide. HTML?? Let's face it, HTML is REALLY easy. What could you do in HTML that would be so cool you wouldn't want someone to look at it. Plus as meow said, it's virtually impossible to secure it. If your webpage displays in someone's browser, they've got ALL your HTML. There's no viable way to stop someone. Write good clean code, and there's nothing you'd want to hide anyway.

I've heard good things about hostgator, brinkster, godaddy. A lot of them are same ol' same ol' when you read their literature. I recommend talking to them and asking very specific questions about what you want. This tells you two things. First and most obviously, this tells you how good their support is. You want to know how responsive they are (when and if you can get in touch with them) and how knowledgeable they are. The other issue is to make really certain that what you want is available on the packages you're looking at. A friend of mine is a freelance developer and signed a client up with godaddy because they offered ASP.NET on a relatively inexpensive package. They got very sophisticated database functionality working, but couldn't get the relatively simple email up and running. Turns out godaddy didn't permit access to the mail server on their account. He had to go back to the client and tell them that it would cost them another $20 a month to upgrade to a VPS account. The client decided it was worth it, but that's never a pleasant situation to get stuck in. Find out if they permit the specific functions you need, get specific.

well if you desperately want to hide the code of your website then there are online website code encrypted code generators. you can use them and save your code but then i dont know if they will slow down the loading process cause it must be processed from some where.

:DI'm still getting my hands around .NET, but ultimately I'd like to learn both. It's just tough with working at my management position all day, dealing with the kids when I get home, and then trying to spend a little time with my wife after they're in bed. I only get an hour or two to play around with C# at night. I was originally trained in VB, and no one in San Diego has anything for .NET but C# jobs. So that's my current project.

And I guess I just have to throw out one last time how bad an idea I think it would be to mask it. The encrypted code generator is of very limited value. Anyone who can see the output of your webpage in their browser would be able to steal your code. It takes such a limited knowledge of HTML (it's just not that complicated) to write code to mimic what you're doing even if you can't see the underlying code. There is no security measure that will hide HTML adequately, because the browser needs to be able to read it to display your webpage. That's Catch-22. You have to show it, or the browser fails to render your page. There's no way around it, and anything that tells you it provides that kind of security is not really telling the truth.

They managed to do it!

They are using a Javascript to encrypt the HTML to a javascript.

It cannot be hacked as all good decrypters require you have to the decrypted key

> They managed to do it!

And I'll bet the whole world is pining to get a look at their sophisticated, high-quality HTML code. I can use a packet sniffer on the client side, get the HTML, the key, the JavaScript... everything! If your browser downloads it, I can get it. And that's just one way I can get it.

> They are using a Javascript to encrypt the HTML to a javascript.

Nothing on the client-side is safe, no matter how sophisticated your obfuscation.

> It cannot be hacked as all good decrypters require you have to the decrypted key

Anything can be hacked.

Happens all the time. DVD's, eBooks, CD's, cable, satellite signals. You show me a DRM scheme, and I'll show you an army of hackers hell bent on breaking it. And not always because they want or need to. Sometimes it's just because they can.

Rich
